Семинар по Драматургии / Playwriting Workshop
Нома Мирная, Аля Этингоф; 13+; 4 meetings. Class will be taught in English.
WHAT
"Playwriting Workshop" is a playwriting workshop. A lot of people ask me "Нома, how do you write a play?" Well, most of the time you don't. Instead someone usually says "you have to write a play" and "you have to do it by tomorrow", and then you do. That's what this workshop is!
WHO
Ask yourself... have you ever:
Wanted to write a play?
Wondered how to write dialogue?
Had a good idea but wondered how to turn it into a story for the stage?
If you said "yes" to any of these, you're probably a good fit for this class!
HOW
Playwriting workshop is a four-day workshop, consisting of four 1-hour lectures, which will be split into two parts.
In the first half hour — I will be giving a 30min lecture on the basic building blocks of a play — dramatic story structure, character, stakes (why we care), and revising. (Our first class will also be partially dedicated to dissecting the question of "what is a play", and how playwriting is structurally different from tv & screenwriting.)
In the second half hour — You will be placed into groups of 3 - 4 and asked to write (and revise) a 5-10 minute play over the span of four days, building upon the lecture material! By the end of the class, you will have collaboratively written a short play, and have something to show by Творческий Вечер, should that be something you're interested in.
Finally — There will be some minor "homework" assignments, and readings that I will recommend to deeper engage in the class for those who are interested. There will be one very brief text that I will email out and ask to read before the first day. And the class will be taught in English, though writing is encouraged in any language.
